The Gloucester Music Teachers' Association (GMTA)

For the Music Student

The GMTA provides referrals to a qualified private teacher in your area in the following subjects: Piano, Voice, Cello, Violin, Viola, Recorder, Guitar, Harmony, History, Rudiments, Composition, Kindermusik, and Music for Young Children.

Students of a Gloucester Music Teacher may take part in various activities put on by the GMTA throughout the year.

The GMTA First Class Honours Recital features students who have performed at a First Class Honours level within the past year. The Gloucester Music Teachers also provide an opportunity for their students to perform in a less formal environment through performance groups, master classes and informal recitals.

The Gloucester Music Teachers' Awards honour the students who achieve the highest marks at all levels on Conservatory Canada and the Royal Conservatory of Music's Practical and Theory examinations.

Workshops are also held on various subjects for the benefit of teachers and students, and are open to the public.

For the Teacher

The GMTA consists of a dynamic group of teachers from the eastern part of Ottawa (Gloucester and Cumberland areas) who wish to further their professional development through various avenues.

Informative meetings allow teachers to share and discuss different teaching techniques, methods, books, etc. The meetings also allow the teachers to give one another feedback in specific problem areas that may arise in day-to-day teaching. Teachers are also kept up to date on upcoming musical events in the Ottawa area--recitals, festivals, concerts, workshops, etc.

The association is the perfect backdrop for the teacher who wants to become more involved and musically informed.

We welcome new teachers to join us and participate in achieving and maintaining our goal--a community of qualified teachers dedicated to expanding and promoting their students' musical horizons.
